English heritage listed country house

Client: English Heritage
Location: Essex
Reference No: CS002

Moyn's Park, former home of the Mountbatten family and over 400 years old, is a very fine example of an English country house.

English Heritage were insistent that structural repair techniques should be sympathetic to existing materials, visibly unobtrusive and cause the minimum of disruption to the host fabric whilst restoring full integrity.

Defects

  • Alterations over the years to the west gable had caused serious structural faults.
  • Window openings had been changed and a bay, with shallow foundations, had been added. Subsidence had then occurred resulting in rotational movement of the bay, lateral movement of the main brickwork, serious bowing of the gable made worse by the absence of lateral restraint between the walls and floors.

Helifix Solution

Some areas of brickwork had to be carefully removed and rebuilt with original bricks and new special handmade bricks.

The Helibeam System of concealed masonry reinforcement was installed around the bay, stitching the brickwork and tying the bay to the main structure.

BowTies restrained the bowed wall. CemTies anchored the facade.

The whole area was repointed with lime mortar to leave virtually no sign of the major structural repairs that had been carried out to the full satisfaction of English Heritage.

Significant time and cost savings. 10 year insurance backed warranty.
