Former school secured prior to conversion

Client: Mynde Management
Location: Swansea
Approved Installer: Protectahome
Reference No: CS037

Prior to its conversion into luxury apartments the former St Thomas Primary School required various structural repairs to secure the fabric of the building. The six storey Victorian building had seffered from thermal movement, lintel failure and bond failure of its solid brick and stone walls resulting in assorted cracking of the masonry.

Helifix Solution

  • Failed lintels were reinstated by vertically installing grouted CemTies through the soldier course brickwork into masonry beams above, which were created by bonding HeliBars into channelled out mortar beds.
  • The de-bonded solid walls were reconnected by cross stitching them with further grouted CemTies while cracks in the masonry were stitched with bonded HeliBars.
  • By using Helifix concealed remedial systems the property was quickly and cost-effectively stabilised, the original masonry was retained and the conversion to residential apartments proceeded without any contract delays.
